Lupe C. Valdez of Union Pacific Railroad - Named Woman of the Year

Ms. Valdez highlighted upcoming industry-wide issues including environmental issues and positive train control. She focused on the need to engage in issues relative to the environment as it is an issue that has received a tremendous amount of attention in California and the interest in this will grow in our industry and outside of our industry. She also focused on the need to mentor the next generation of women and men coming into the workforce and to expose this new generation to the types of careers available at our various companies.

Members of the Year. Araceli Martinez presented the awards for Member of the Year to two outstanding members:

Wendy Pickering-(Gunderson) LRIW Asst. Secretary. Wendy Pickering was recognized for her outstanding job of organizing the LRIW conference in Portland , OR and for being a constant contributor working with extraordinary teamwork in all LRIW projects during her 9 years with the LRIW.

Victoria Anderson-Lytton (TTX) - LRIW Parliamentarian and Membership. LRIW honored Victoria Anderson as Member of the Year for the second time, acknowledging her constant support during her 10 years with the LRIW. This is the first time LRIW has given the award to a former recipient.
